Draper Stuns Fritz in Straight Sets
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – British rising star Jack Draper delivered a stunning performance at the 2025 BNP Paribas Open, defeating No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz in straight sets. The former Indian Wells champion from 2022 struggled against Draper’s powerful serve, ultimately falling 7-5, 6-4 in a hard-fought battle.
“I played at a high level today,” said Draper, who previously reached the US Open semifinals. “In the past, I struggled with my service here, but today I felt confident. My serve put much pressure on him, which made the difference.”
Ben Shelton Becomes Lone American in Quarterfinals
With Fritz’s exit, Ben Shelton remains the only American male in the tournament. The 22-year-old secured his spot in the quarterfinals by overpowering fellow American Brandon Nakashima in a dominant 7-6 (6), 6-1 victory.
The match started with a grueling 61-minute first set, where Shelton narrowly edged out Nakashima in a tiebreaker. However, the second set was a completely different story, as Shelton dominated, racing to a 5-0 lead in just 20 minutes before closing the match.
This victory continues Shelton’s unbeaten streak against Nakashima, extending his head-to-head record to 5-0.

Carlos Alcaraz Cruises into Quarterfinals Without Dropping a Set
Second seed Carlos Alcaraz showcased his championship pedigree, crushing No. 14 seed Grigor Dimitrov 6-1, 6-1 in a commanding performance. The four-time Grand Slam champion remains unbeaten in the tournament, not dropping a single set on his way to the quarterfinals.
Alcaraz is chasing history, aiming to become just the third man to win Indian Wells three consecutive times, joining legends Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz Thrives in Tough Conditions, Dimitrov Struggles
The windy conditions made play difficult, but Alcaraz adjusted far better than Dimitrov, who showed signs of fatigue after a grueling three-hour third-round match earlier in the week.
“The conditions were challenging today,” Alcaraz acknowledged. “In situations like this, you just have to find a way to push through.” I’m happy that I managed to find my rhythm and play long rallies despite the wind.”
Alcaraz’s precision and consistency were key, as he did not face a single break point in the first set. In the second set, he won 96% of his first-serve points and saved all three break points that Dimitrov managed to earn.
Alcaraz vs. Cerundolo, Draper vs. Shelton
Alcaraz now faces Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, who eliminated Australian Alex de Minaur in a 7-5, 6-3 victory. Meanwhile, Draper and Shelton will clash in an exciting quarterfinal showdown, ensuring one of them advances to the semifinals.
With the BNP Paribas Open heating up, all eyes are on Alcaraz’s title defense and Draper’s breakout run. Will Shelton keep the American hopes alive, or will Draper continue his impressive streak? The quarterfinal matchups promise high-intensity battles as the tournament nears its climax.
