Bell’s Back-to-Back Wins Continue His Dominance
Bell secured his second consecutive NASCAR Cup Series victory after an overtime win in Atlanta the previous weekend. After manoeuvring past Busch, the Oklahoma native faced an intense battle to maintain his lead. Driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, Bell expertly defended his position against Byron’s Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet and Tyler Reddick’s 23XI Racing Toyota, who was last year’s race winner.
Kyle Busch’s Strong Start Ends in Disappointment
Busch, who led 43 of the 95 laps in his Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, appeared poised for a long-overdue victory. However, he faded to fifth place as the race progressed, extending his winless streak to 60 races in 2023. Despite his commanding presence in the early stages, a crucial mistake allowed Bell to take control of the race.
These road course races are incredibly exciting,” Bell remarked after the race.”Kyle was running a great race, but he made a small error, and I took advantage. Once I got in front, I just told myself to stay focused and not make any mistakes.”

Chase Elliott’s Remarkable Comeback
Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott, who started third, encountered early trouble when Ross Chastain from Trackhouse Racing caused him to spin on Turn 1. This mishap sent Elliott to the back of the field. However, he clawed his way back into contention through sheer determination and skill, securing a fourth-place finish.
Connor Zilisch’s Eventful Cup Series Debut
Rookie Connor Zilisch, making his NASCAR Cup Series debut, experienced a rollercoaster race. The 18-year-old started in 14th place but quickly dropped back following early contact. He displayed impressive resilience and fought back into the top 15 by the third stage.
Unfortunately, his race ended dramatically when Trackhouse Racing teammate Daniel Suarez spun out on lap 50. Zilisch was unable to avoid the wreck, crashing into the wall. His car caught fire upon impact, but he escaped without injury.
Future of NASCAR at Circuit of the Americas
The future of NASCAR at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) remains uncertain beyond 2025. The track has been a favourite among drivers and fans since it first hosted NASCAR events, adding to its rich motorsports history alongside Formula 1, which has raced there since 2012, and MotoGP, which has competed at the venue since 2013.
Speedway Motorsports currently rents the facility for NASCAR race weekends, and COTA President Bobby Epstein has expressed a strong desire to continue the partnership.
“We will review ticket renewals, fan input, and overall race outcomes before engaging with NASCAR about next year’s schedule,” stated Mike Burch, COO of Speedway Motorsports. “A key factor will be the success of the new National Course layout, which was introduced to bring more action and excitement directly in front of the fans.”
Exciting Season Ahead for NASCAR
The battle for supremacy continues to heat up as NASCAR’s season progresses. With Bell securing consecutive victories, Kyle Busch seeking to break his winless streak, and emerging talents like Connor Zilisch making their mark, the season promises thrilling action for racing enthusiasts.
Fans eagerly await NASCAR’s decision regarding future races at Circuit of the Americas, hoping to see more adrenaline-fueled showdowns at the iconic road course.
