NBA superstar Damian Lillard has solidified his place among basketball’s elite, making his ninth All-Star appearance. However, this year’s event holds special significance for the Milwaukee Bucks guard. With the All-Star Weekend in San Francisco and the Bay Area, Lillard is returning to his roots, embracing nostalgia, and seizing the opportunity to mentor the next generation.

A Meaningful Homecoming
Reflecting on his childhood, Lillard cherishes the opportunity to return to the city where he first fell in love with basketball.
“It’s real cool,” Lillard shared with Andy Scholes. “I remember in 2000, coming to All-Star weekend with my dad, brother, and some of my cousins, experiencing that moment together.”
As a seasoned NBA veteran and nine-time All-Star, Lillard values the significance of playing at an elite level while giving back to his community. “Coming home and being part of this event makes it even more special,” he added.
Chasing Three-Point Contest History
Beyond the nostalgia, Lillard has a historic milestone in his sights. The 34-year-old can join an exclusive club by winning the Three-Point Contest for a third consecutive year. If successful, he would follow in the footsteps of NBA legends Craig Hodges and Larry Bird.
“I’m excited for the opportunity,” Lillard said. “Just to be mentioned alongside those names is an honor, but to achieve this feat in my hometown would be a storybook moment.”
Winning the competition for the third time in a row would cement his legacy and add another highlight to an already remarkable career.
Investing in the Next Generation
While the All-Star festivities provide a platform for showcasing his skills, Lillard is equally focused on uplifting young people from his hometown. The reigning All-Star Game MVP has taken meaningful steps to support aspiring students by partnering with Portland State University to establish the Damian Lillard Scholarship. This initiative offers financial assistance to high school students in East Bay, reinforcing Lillard’s commitment to education and community development.
“This was extremely important to me,” Lillard emphasized. “I’ve always wanted to return home and create a lasting impact, to help the youth and give them opportunities to secure a better future.”
Having experienced personal growth after leaving California for college at Weber State, Lillard understands the value of expanding one’s horizons.
“As someone who left California for school and grew tremendously from that experience, I want to provide this opportunity for these kids. It’s about putting them in a better position for success.”
A Weekend to Remember
Lillard is set to take center stage during the Three-Point Contest on February 15, aiming for a historic three-peat. The following day, he will participate in the NBA All-Star Game, adding another chapter to his illustrious career.
For Lillard, this weekend is about more than just basketball. It’s about legacy, inspiration, and making a genuine difference in the next generation’s lives.
