Matteo Jorgenson Triumphs at Paris-Nice 2025
Paris-Nice, France (March 9-16) – Matteo Jorgenson (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) showcased his dominance by winning Paris-Nice for the second consecutive year. Over eight gruelling stages filled with unpredictable weather—snow, sleet, and rain—the 25-year-old American successfully defended his title.
“To claim back-to-back victories at Paris-Nice is truly unbelievable,” Jorgenson shared after crossing the finish line. “This competition is deeply meaningful to me. It’s been an incredible week.”
Team USA had more reasons to celebrate, as Magnus Sheffield (INEOS Grenadiers) secured a thrilling solo win on the final stage, marking his first-ever World Tour stage victory. The 22-year-old also placed fourth in the overall General Classification (GC) and secured second in the Youth category.
Jorgenson displayed remarkable consistency, finishing in the top 10 across five stages. Despite the early exit of his teammate, two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard, on Stage 5, Jorgenson remained steadfast in his pursuit of victory. He now holds the distinction of being the first American to claim two Paris-Nice titles.
Powless and Sheffield Shine at Trofeo Laigueglia
Liguria, Italy (March 5) – Team USA riders performed strongly at the Trofeo Laigueglia, a 190-kilometer race featuring challenging climbs. Neilson Powless (EF Education-EasyPost) narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth in a thrilling four-person sprint. The race ended in a photo finish behind winner Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates-XRG). Meanwhile, Magnus Sheffield (INEOS Grenadiers) also put in a solid effort, finishing sixth overall.
UCI Track Nations Cup: Silver and a National Record for Team USA
Konya, Turkey (March 14-16) – Team USA made a strong statement at the UCI Track Nations Cup, clinching silver in the Men’s Team Pursuit. The squad—comprising Ashlin Barry, David Dononoske, Graeme Frisle, and Anders Johnson—also set a new US national record with a blazing time of 3:47.
Seventeen-year-old Ashlin Barry, the current US junior road and time trial national champion, impressed in the elite men’s Omnium. He delivered a stellar performance, placing second overall. Barry finished 4th in Scratch, won the Tempo race, placed 3rd in Elimination, and entered the Points race as the leader. Ultimately, he secured second place overall by just one point.
Peter Moore also represented Team USA well, finishing seventh in the elite men’s Elimination race. The event saw participation from nearly 345 athletes across 42 nations.
