The United States Golf Association (USGA) has unveiled the qualifying sites for the 80th U.S. Women’s Open Championship. Scheduled to take place at the renowned Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin, from May 29 to June 1, 2025, this marks the first time the resort will host the prestigious tournament.

An Inclusive Qualification Process Spanning the Globe

The U.S. Women’s Open qualification process is set to include 36-hole events across 26 sites worldwide. These include 23 locations in the United States and one each in Canada, Japan, and Italy. This extensive network provides a global platform for professional and amateur golfers to vie for a coveted spot in the championship field. The application period for online entries is now open and will close on Wednesday, April 2, at 5 p.m. EDT via the USGA’s official website (champs.usga.org).

John Bodenhamer, USGA Chief Championships Officer, emphasized the importance of collaboration in this process:

“The partnership between Allied Golf Associations, international federations, and tours is vital in ensuring golfers worldwide have the chance to compete. We are confident that Erin Hills and the local Wisconsin community will deliver an exceptional experience for players and fans alike.”

Iconic Qualifying Venues Highlight Championship History

Several qualifying sites are steeped in championship history, having previously hosted the U.S. Women’s Open or other significant events. These include:

  • The Olympic Club (Lake Course), San Francisco, California

This historic venue will also host the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship in August 2025.

  • Del Paso Country Club, Sacramento, California

Del Paso has a storied legacy, hosting a qualifier for the first time in 30 years.

  • Salem Country Club, Peabody, Massachusetts

A site where legends like Babe Didrikson Zaharias and Hollis Stacy secured U.S. Women’s Open victories.

  • Druid Hills Golf Club, Atlanta, Georgia

This marks its seventh time hosting a U.S. Women’s Open qualifier, a testament to its enduring excellence.

Additional noteworthy venues include Shannopin Country Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Walnut Creek Golf Preserve in Westminster, Colorado, both of which are hosting qualifiers for the sixth time.

Expanding Global Reach with International Qualifiers

The USGA has included international sites like Boso Country Club in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, to emphasize its global appeal. This marks its fourth consecutive year as a qualifier location, and its 2024 event produced notable performers such as Amiyo Ozeki and Yui Kawamoto. Similarly, Golf Club Ambrosiano in Italy and The Vancouver Golf Club in Canada continue to strengthen the championship’s international presence.

Breaking Records and Setting Standards

The 2024 U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club saw 1,897 entries, the second-highest in history, trailing only the 2023 championship at Pebble Beach, which had 2,107 entries. This surge in participation underscores the growing enthusiasm for women’s golf globally.

Notably, Birdie Kim remains the last player to win the U.S. Women’s Open after advancing through qualifying, a feat she achieved in 2005. In 2024, 26 golfers from qualifiers made the 36-hole cut, with standout performances like Arpichaya Yubol’s fifth-place finish.

Wisconsin: A Premier Destination for Championship Golf

Wisconsin has a rich history of hosting USGA events, and the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open will be the state’s third time holding this prestigious tournament. Erin Hills, which previously hosted the 2017 U.S. Open won by Brooks Koepka, becomes the 16th club to keep both the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open. This milestone underscores its status as a premier golfing destination.
